Many of people decide when buying to choose organic food because they want to avoid the consumption of foods that are treated with a variety of harmful chemicals. Pesticides can cause health problems, and some have carcinogenic effects.

We don’t want you to create an aversion to fruits and vegetables, but it is important to know which fruits and vegetables are worth for a few $ more and purchase them from organic farming. If you buy a “usual” fruit and vegetable make sure that you wash it thoroughly because traces of pesticides are usually retained on the peel.

For example, special caution is preferred in the consumption of lemons and oranges. Their peel is not edible because it is treated with the amount of pesticides that are often above the permitted limit. So be careful if you use their zest for cakes, cookies or something like that.

According the institutes engaged in controls at the world level, foods that are mostly treated with pesticides are:

– fruits: apples, strawberries, peaches, nectarines and grapes and

– vegetables: spinach, celery, peppers, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, peas and potatoes.

Foods that are minimum treated with pesticides are: onion, corn, cabbage, kiwi, green peas, asparagus, mango, watermelon, eggplant, pineapple.
