Spinach is a very healthy food that we should in including in our diets. Many do not fancy eating a bowl of spinach, but it can be used in so many different recipes and dishes. Consider adding it to lasagna to beef it up, or using it fresh in a salad. Or how about adding it to soups and stews? People have added it successfully to smoothies, without even telling it was added. Spinach is best when it is fresh, as it losses much of the nutrients when it has been frozen. It is always better to buy it organic if available.

 

Spinach is very nutrient dense. It has protein and is a great source of vitamin E. It also contains niacin, omega 3 fatty acids, selenium, zinc, copper, vitamin A and iron. It is full of calcium, folate, vitamin C, potassium, and B6.

Spinach is great for those that have digestive issues. Spinach helps with the stomach lining, which is great for those that suffer from ulcers, and will help those that have constipation. It will also flush toxins out of the colon.

Another reason to add spinach to the diet is the flavonoid count. These antioxidants protect the body against free radicals. This will also help give the body strength, protect against illnesses and develop muscles.

This heart healthy food is loaded with vitamin A and C, which help to reduce the free radicals in the body. These antioxidants will help to keep cholesterol from oxidizing in the body. The magnesium found in spinach will help to lower blood pressure.

Spinach is full of iron as well. Since it is fat free and cholesterol free, it is a great way to get the daily protein requirement in without eating excess calories.
